Stefan Ruf-Lenzin


The hornist Stefan Ruf (1965) completed his apprenticeship at the academy of music in Basel (J. Brejza, Teaching- and Orchestradiploma), in Detmold (M. Hoeltzle) and in Cologne (E. Penzel). He was a long-time member of the Orpheus Quintetts, the Basler Hornquartett and the Concert Brass Ensembles. Next to his chamber musical occupation, he teaches the horn at the academy of music in Basel, to students of any age. Innumerable amounts of his students earned prices in national and international Contests in the categories solo, duo and chambermusic. Next to his teaching position he organized the first pedagogic day at the world horn congress in 2007. For organizing the pedagogic day, the IHS (International Horn Society) awarded him with the Punto Award. He is also responsible for several national and international horn seminars. Furthermore, he works as a subject specialist at different music academies and as an expert at music competitions.Different composers, like Rudolf Kelterborn, Thüring Bräm, Jürg Wyttenbach, Balz Trümpy, Alfred Knüsel and Daniel Schnyder dedicated contemporary music pieces to his horn class.Former students of his class are working inter alia at :The Bayrischen Saatsoper/ NDR Sinfonie Orchester/ Staats Orchester Hamburg and Karlsruhe /Philharmonisches Orchester Magdenburg and Heidelberg /Staatsoper Stuttgart,Tirole Sinfonieorcheter Innsbruck etc.
